Restore your smile in a single visit with CEREC dental crowns.

Sometimes a regular filling just isn’t enough as a tooth pain remedy or dental restoration. When this occurs, you need a solution that is strong enough to support the tooth and prevent it from breaking down or fracturing. CEREC dental crowns are the highest quality crowns your dentist can offer you because they have several advantages over traditional crowns.

CEREC dental crowns help restore a tooth to its natural function and are also esthetically pleasing. The advanced level of technology guarantees optimal comfort, but also convenience as you can receive a new tooth in only one dental visit.

What are CEREC crowns?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic, and it offers a replacement for a natural tooth structure. The technology uses a modernized CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) system to mill a custom ceramic crown in a single visit, avoiding the multiple dental visits and temporary crowns needed for traditional crown restorations. They are custom-fabricated crowns that are metal free and are typically created in about an hour.

If you are in need of a dental crown, a CEREC crown may be a more conservative approach compared with a traditional crown. Patients request CEREC as a tooth pain remedy, but there are many common reasons why a CEREC crown is indicated, including:

  • Old, fractured dental fillings.
  • Severe tooth decay.
  • Chipped or fractured teeth.
  • Irregularly shaped teeth.
  • Trauma or injury.
  • Staining or discoloration that a filling cannot correct.

What are the advantages compared to traditional crowns?

Staley Dental is proud to offer CEREC dental crowns because they have numerous advantages over traditional crowns. The digital technology helps create more accurate and precise-fitting crowns because the digital impressions are transformed into a 3-D model of your tooth. This feature ensures a better fit and more comfort thanks to the incredible accuracy of this technology.

Many patients frown at the thought of uncomfortable impressions that can cause gagging. CEREC technology uses digital scanning that avoids traditional putty impressions and is quicker and less messy.

CEREC is also more beneficial than traditional crowns because it avoids second or even third dental visits that can be a major inconvenience for many patients. While regular crowns require a laboratory process, CEREC dental crowns can be fabricated in the office in only an hour.

CEREC dental crowns are highly durable, giving them a lifespan of at least 15 years with good oral care. Dentists recommend CEREC crowns over traditional crowns because the margins between the crown and natural tooth are more accurate, therefore, they have less chance of failure or recurrent tooth decay.

Are CEREC crowns aesthetic?

One of the major benefits of CEREC crowns is that they help repair damaged teeth using a highly durable and esthetic material: ceramic. Since ceramic CEREC crowns lack a metal core, they tend to mimic natural teeth better than other dental materials.

There are many dental shades you and your dentist can choose from prior to fabricating your new crown. The best part is you can choose the shade of your new restoration on the spot and have it made chair-side to avoid shape or shade errors.

Since CEREC crowns use a single block of two-phase leucite ceramic instead of molded ceramic and metal, they are considered more reliable and stable restorations.

What is the CEREC same-day crown process?

The treatment process includes:

  1. Prepping the tooth: Using a local anesthetic, your dentist will remove any old, fractured restorations, and any damaged parts to prep the tooth for the new CEREC crown.
  2. A digital scan is taken of the tooth to get an impression of the mouth. The CAD/CAM program is used to analyze the impression and design a new tooth. A specific shade is chosen to match your adjacent teeth.
  3. A CEREC block is milled to your tooth’s anatomy in about 15 minutes. Once milled, your dentist will fit, adjust, and cement your new CEREC crown. The entire treatment time from start to finish when receiving a custom-milled crown is around one to two hours.

How do I maintain my new CEREC crown?

Dental care for a CEREC crown is the same as any other restoration. Practice good oral hygiene at home and maintain a healthy diet, avoiding excess sugar or sticky foods. Visit your dentist regularly and remember to floss daily.

CEREC crowns are extremely durable and esthetic, giving you a long-lasting and healthy smile. If you are searching for a dental restoration that is accurate, cosmetically appealing, and doesn’t need to use metal, discuss your CEREC crown options with your dentist at Staley Dental.
